The Reality Behind the Shutter Elections
Islamabad loves staging electoral exercises in PoJK to manufacture a fake sense of legitimacy. Let's be honest. Nobody outside of the establishment's inner circle takes these votes seriously. They are a complete farce.
Protesters have faced violent crackdowns in places like Rawalakot and other regional pockets. When polling booths are guarded by internet shutdowns and armed intimidation, you don't have a democracy. You have an occupation. The ground reality isn't found in official press releases from Islamabad. It is found in the emergency wards of local hospitals, the tear gas lingering in residential alleys, and the grieving families of civilian protesters shot down in cold blood.
Why the Global Community Must Wake Up
For too long, the international community has given Pakistan a free pass on its regional misdeeds. Hypocrisy thrives when global powers look away.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal made it clear during a media briefing that the world needs to see right through the veneer of Pakistan's human rights posturing. Over ninety civilian deaths in a localized crackdown should trigger immediate international inquiries, yet the silence from major global rights bodies remains deafening.
Local protest groups have even had to knock on the doors of organizations like the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) just to get basic attention for the civilian killings. When a population is completely cut off from the internet, subjected to arbitrary arrests, and punished with lethal force for demanding freedom from administrative chokeholds, standard diplomatic concern doesn't cut it anymore.
Moving Beyond Empty Condemnations
Naming and shaming is a start, but accountability requires concrete diplomatic weight.
- Demand independent international probes into the deaths of civilian demonstrators in PoJK.
- Reject manufactured local elections designed to obscure military control.
- Force transparency on communication blackouts and media censorship enforced by security forces.
The people of PoJK aren't asking for complex geopolitical maneuvers. They want the violence to stop. They want their basic freedoms recognized. Until the international community stops treating these abuses as localized anomalies and starts holding Islamabad directly responsible, the bullets will keep flying.
