Inside The Twisted Mind Of Deepak Sandhu And The Airbnb Murder Trial

When the lies stop working, the violence often begins. Deepak Sandhu lived in a fabricated world where he was a successful actor, a globe-trotting model, and a university graduate. Reality was far more ordinary and far more desperate. He was a failed student living off family handouts and construction work who had stolen £500 from Xiaoqing Ke.

When Ms Ke saw through his elaborate facade, called him out as a liar, and demanded her money back, Sandhu did what dangerous men do when rejected. He packed a knife, travelled from Southampton to London, and murdered her inside an Airbnb bedsit in Earl's Court. Following a trial at the Old Bailey, jurors saw right through his courtroom defense and delivered a unanimous guilty verdict.

The Anatomy of a Fabricated Life

Sandhu's entire existence was built on sand. He claimed to live with his sister in Southampton while she was actually thousands of miles away in India. He told people he was jetting off to the United States for acting auditions and preparing for a graduation ceremony at Southampton Solent University.

None of it was true. University records showed he had been kicked out months prior due to miserable attendance. He struggled to pay basic bills and resorted to petty financial deceit.

Ms Ke caught on to the truth. She realized he was manipulating her and flatly refused to play along anymore. Text messages and communications revealed her blunt boundary setting. She told him not to bother visiting and demanded the return of her funds. Instead of accepting accountability, Sandhu took it as a personal insult that shattered his fragile ego. He warned her former brothel boss that she would regret what she had done.

The Attack at the London Bedsit

On December 9 last year, Sandhu left Southampton armed with a blade. Doorbell security footage at Ms Ke's Airbnb bedsit captured his arrival. He wore a baseball cap and had his face deliberately covered. He spent roughly ninety minutes inside the property.

The physical evidence and camera footage dismantled his flimsy alibi. After brutally ending Ms Ke's life, Sandhu didn't call emergency services. He dialed his sister in India and immediately booked a flight from Birmingham to Mumbai.

Flight bookings and bus tickets are hard to explain away. Law enforcement tracked his movements swiftly. On December 12, officers arrested him aboard a National Express coach as it traveled from Southampton toward Birmingham Airport.

The Old Bailey Trial and Verdict

During the trial at the Old Bailey, prosecutors laid out a clear narrative of premeditated revenge driven by narcissistic injury and financial panic. Sandhu tried to spin a bizarre defense. He claimed he went to the flat only because he promised to return the stolen cash, but asserted that upon arrival, Ms Ke told him to wait in a laundry room while she met a customer.

He told jurors he heard arguing, spotted blood, but somehow failed to see the actual killer. He tried to frame himself with the words: "I am not a dangerous man. I am not capable of killing."

The jury didn't buy a single word of it. The combination of doorbell footage, forensic trails, his frantic post-murder phone calls, and his history of obsessive pestering painted an undeniable picture of guilt. Judge Philip Katz KC remanded him into custody for sentencing following the unanimous verdict.

Lives built on delusion rarely end quietly. When toxic entitlement meets financial desperation, the consequences are fatal. Xiaoqing Ke paid with her life because she dared to expose a fraud and demand what was hers.
